SHIV MAHIMNAPAAR STOTRAM

॥श्री शिव महिम्नःस्तोलम् ॥

An Introduction:

About Shri Pushpadanta, the Author of the Stotram. Pushpadanta was a renowned Gandharva, known for his skills in music and singing. He was also a passionate admirer of beautiful things, particularly flowers. One day, he came across a garden filled with exquisite flowers dedicated to Lord Shiva by a devotee named King Chitraratha - चित्ररार्थ. The flowers in this garden were meant exclusively for Shiva's worship. Unable to resist the allure of the flowers, Pushpadanta began secretly plucking them, disregarding their sacred purpose. Despite the king's attempts to protect the garden by putting up warnings and setting traps, Pushpadanta, due to his divine abilities, remained undeterred and undetected and continued to take the flowers. This angered Lord Shiva because the flowers meant for His worship were being stolen.

To teach Pushpadanta a lesson, Lord Shiva placed an invisible spell (avidhya) on the garden. When Pushpadanta next entered to steal the flowers, he became visible and was caught. Realizing his mistake and understanding the divine nature of the intervention, Pushpadanta was filled with remorse. To seek forgiveness and to extol the greatness of Lord Shiva, he composed the Shiv Mahimna Stotra, a beautiful hymn that expresses the infinite glory and attributes of Bhagwan Shiva.. This hymn not only served as Pushpadanta's apology but also became a timeless piece of devotional literature, celebrated for its profound reverence and poetic brilliance. The stotra LOW celebrates the limitless greatness (महिम्नः) of Lord Shiva, assion which transcends human comprehension. This stotra is a poetic masterpiece, blending devotion and philosophy, and extolling Shiva's glory in multifaceted ways.
